Last <\/span><\/span>October 21<\/span><\/span>, within the framework of the 5th Assembly of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda<\/span>,<\/span> a new meeting of the <\/strong><\/span><\/span> Working Group of Intermediate Local Entities<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, in which <\/span><\/span>Provincial Councils, Cabildos, and Island Councils<\/span><\/span> shared good practices and experiences aimed at promoting the implementation of the <\/strong> <\/span><\/span>Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><\/span><\/strong> from the <\/span><\/span>provincial and island levels<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

During the opening, the president of the Network of Local Entities highlighted the importance of this collaborative space, which seeks to \u201c<\/span><\/span>share experiences that contribute to integrating the SDGs into the structures, policies, and actions of each administration<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u201d. He also stressed that sustainable development requires first-hand knowledge of how different territories are addressing this common challenge.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the day, various initiatives related to key aspects for achieving the SDGs were presented, such as the preparation of <\/strong> <\/span><\/span>Voluntary Local Reviews<\/span><\/span><\/strong> (VLRs), <\/span><\/span>budgetary alignment with sustainable objectives<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, <\/span><\/span>internal training processes<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, <\/span><\/span>citizen awareness campaigns<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , and <\/span><\/span>mainstreaming strategies for the SDGs<\/strong> across all government areas<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

On this occasion, the Provincial Council of Burgos<\/strong>, the Provincial Council of C\u00e1ceres<\/strong>, the Provincial Council of C\u00f3rdoba<\/strong>, and the Island Councils of Gran Canaria and La Palma<\/strong> were responsible for presenting their experiences.<\/p>\n

Each intervention provided insight into significant projects and advancements, as well as<\/span>,<\/span> opening spaces for dialogue and exchange with the other <\/span>participants<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The president of the Network emphasized that \u201c<\/span><\/span>these sessions are an opportunity not only to showcase what we have achieved but also to inspire each other and strengthen an inter-institutional collaboration network that enhances our collective impact<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u201d.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

With this event, the Network continues to consolidate the joint work initiated in previous sessions, held both in-person and virtually, with the aim of fostering cohesion and advancing in the localization processes of the 2030 Agenda.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>The session concluded with thanks to all participating entities for their commitment and willingness<\/strong> to share their achievements and challenges, reaffirming the common desire to move towards more sustainable, inclusive public administrations committed to the future.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The next meeting of the Working Group is scheduled for <\/span><\/span>January 2026<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, where this network of knowledge and action in favor of sustainable development will continue to be strengthened.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Provincial Council of Burgos<\/h3>\n

The Provincial Council of Burgos presented the <\/span>Provincial Sustainability Itinerary \u201cCaminODS Burgos\u201d<\/span><\/i>, a pioneering initiative that seeks to <\/span>bring the 2030 Agenda closer to rural areas<\/span><\/b> through the direct involvement of municipalities.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The project identifies 17 pilot municipalities, each with a municipal project aligned with one of the Sustainable Development Goals, and combines training, educational, and awareness-raising actions aimed at citizens.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Through <\/span>workshops, exhibitions, and informative materials<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>CaminODS Burgos<\/span><\/i> promotes the<\/span> practical integration of the SDGs into local policies<\/span><\/b>, strengthens synergies between institutions, and highlights the commitment of small municipalities to sustainable, inclusive, and balanced development.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Provincial Council of C\u00e1ceres<\/h3>\n

The Provincial Council of C\u00e1ceres presented an <\/span>extensive set of initiatives that reflect its commitment to sustainable, inclusive provincial development aligned with the SDGs<\/span><\/b>. Through its <\/span>Provincial Agenda Technical Office<\/span><\/i>, the institution promotes institutional coordination and the integration of the SDGs into local policies, strengthening participatory governance and territorial balance.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Among its good practices are projects in the areas of <\/span>international cooperation<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>gender equality<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>energy transition<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>sustainable water management<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>protection of natural heritage<\/span><\/b>, as well as training, employment, and social action programs.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

A transversal approach that makes the Provincial Council a benchmark for sustainable planning and for supporting small municipalities in their adaptation to the 2030 Agenda.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Provincial Council of C\u00f3rdoba<\/h3>\n

The Provincial Council of C\u00f3rdoba shared its experience with the project <\/span>Alliance 2030: Transforming the Province of C\u00f3rdoba<\/span><\/i>, a process that consolidates <\/span>more than two decades of work in sustainability and has allowed progress from Local Agendas 21<\/span><\/b> towards the full integration of the SDGs into provincial policies.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative promotes <\/span>multi-stakeholder planning and coordination among administrations, universities, businesses, and civil society<\/span><\/b>, fostering budgets aligned with the SDGs, training technical staff, and preparing Voluntary Local Reviews.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

With the creation of the 2030 Agenda Office and the network of committed municipalities, the Provincial Council positions itself as a benchmark in collaborative governance and in the practical application of the SDGs as a framework for sustainable territorial development.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Island Council of Gran Canaria<\/h3>\n

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria presented the program-campaign <\/span>\u201cA Gran Canaria 2030 for a 2030 World Cup\u201d<\/span><\/i>, an innovative initiative that <\/span>leverages the island’s designation as a host for the FIFA 2030 World Cup to project its commitment to sustainability and the 2030 Agenda. <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

The project combines communication, participation, and action, involving <\/span>citizens<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>public and private entities<\/span><\/b> in initiatives that promote ecological transition, equality, social innovation, and sports culture.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Through actions such as the creation of a <\/span>sustainable FanZone<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>reforestation campaigns<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>networks of restaurateurs committed to local products<\/span><\/b>, or the organization of the Ecoisla Gran Canaria 2030 Symposium, the Cabildo transforms a global sporting event into an opportunity to promote sustainable development and position the island as an international benchmark in SDG integration.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Island Council of La Palma<\/h3>\n

The Island Council of La Palma highlighted its <\/span>2030 Agenda Localization Document<\/span><\/i>, a pioneering tool that allows <\/span>measuring and visualizing the degree of compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals on the island<\/span><\/b>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Developed from an exhaustive<\/span> institutional, economic, social, and environmental diagnostic work<\/span><\/b>, the document systematizes information by SDGs, departments, and dimensions\u2014people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnerships\u2014offering continuous monitoring of the territory’s evolution.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

This methodology, developed internally due to the lack of previous models, has allowed the Cabildo to build <\/span>a solid database to guide public planning and adjust its sustainability strategies<\/span><\/b>, reinforcing its commitment to a 2030 Agenda adapted to the island and rural reality.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
