How was this involvement achieved? <\/strong><\/p>\n Both for the organisation of the project and for the subsequent management of the gardens, meetings were held with different groups, including: University of Salamanca (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, BISITE, MADINUSAL), neighbourhood associations (ASDECOBA, Virgen de la Salud Association, Chamber\u00ed Seniors Association, Huerta Otea Neighbours, …), environmental associations (Association of Organic Farmers, Salamanca Anti-nuclear and Ecologist Committee, Emberiza nature activities, La Encina), third-sector associations (Por Siete, Asprodes).<\/p>\n Briefly, what role has each one played or is playing?<\/strong><\/p>\n All of them took part in prior meetings and information committees to make proposals for actions; they contributed to the genesis of the project, as well as by providing design ideas and suggestions. Later, they also collaborated in drafting the Regulations for use, management and maintenance. A cross-cutting component with an effect on the whole city was sought, but above all at neighbourhood scale, regenerating an environmentally degraded space while also generating economic dynamics that directly and indirectly benefit neighbourhoods, linked to the gardens themselves, to the management of the activity of urban gardeners, to the provision of complementary services and to operational management that fosters inclusion. At the same time, the creation of social meeting points and areas for sharing experiences has been promoted. <\/p>\n OBSTACLES What were the main obstacles encountered in all phases of the project?<\/strong><\/p>\n Obtaining the land.<\/p>\n CONCLUSION. Project impact and usefulness. <\/strong><\/p>\n From a quantitative point of view, this operation has led to the creation of around seven hundred gardens (of different types depending on the recipient: citizen, social or research) and naturalised walkways conceived as a new space for meeting, leisure and coexistence for the people of Salamanca. This action has had strong social support and backing across the whole city, and has received explicit recognition from the European Union, awarding Salamanca\u2019s Urban Gardens the distinction of best representative and communicative project of ERDF Cohesion Policy in 2022. <\/p>\n In short, the Tormes river area and its banks have become established as a major green lung for the city.
