The Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda continues to build momentum in its drive to implement the SDGs at local and provincial level. This follows from the meeting held by the Governing Council, at which the accession of the Federació de Municipis de Catalunya and the Federation of Municipalities and Councils of Navarre was approved. Two new additions which, pending ratification by the FEMP Governing Board, will increase the number of observer members to 16.

Likewise, the Network’s Governing Council welcomes the accession of 417 Local Entities, a total representing more than 26 million citizens, with a predominance of small municipalities with fewer than 2,500 inhabitants, a figure that accounts for 30% of the Network’s members.

The Valencian Community is the region contributing the most Local Entities to the Network (62), followed by Andalusia, which has a total of 55 member administrations. As for Provincial Councils, Island Councils and Insular Councils, the Network now has 25 out of a total of 49.

On the other hand, the Governing Council is already preparing the terms of the call for grants to promote Sports Programmes. This programme, focused on reducing inequality within the framework of the 2030 Agenda, is expected to be published in the coming weeks.

At the same meeting, the date for the 3rd Assembly of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda was confirmed. It will take place on 15 and 16 November and, as already announced, will be hosted by the Barcelona Provincial Council.

For its part, the Network’s Governing Council has scheduled a new meeting for the second half of September, to be co-organised with the Pontevedra Provincial Council, a member entity, whose president, Carmela Silva, is a member of the Network’s Governing Council.
