Conference on Municipal Leadership with the 2030 Agenda
Barcelona, November 14, 15, and 16, 2022
Introduction
The Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda met in Barcelona to hold its Third General Assembly. Taking advantage of this meeting, a Conference was held on November 14, 15, and 16 to highlight and give visibility to the current role of local governments in promoting social cohesion, prosperity, and sustainability in municipalities and provinces.
Halfway through its term, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is being implemented today in a world very different from the one it was in at the time of its approval, seven years ago. At the midpoint of achieving the SDGs, the 2030 Agenda offers Local Governments an opportunity to continue advancing towards sustainable development under the multilateral umbrella of the United Nations, in a context of global threats that can only be faced jointly. The 2030 Agenda stands as the common agenda whose implementation worldwide will allow municipalities and provinces, as well as other territories, to overcome emerging challenges in a resilient, inclusive, and comprehensive manner.
The “Municipal Leadership with the 2030 Agenda” Conference, over three days, shared experiences, reflections, and challenges regarding the importance of local policies in implementing the transformations and transitions that, in accordance with the global agreement represented by the 2030 Agenda, are necessary to face current challenges.
On November 16, the Third Annual Assembly of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda was held. This meeting space for members of the Network approved the work plan and lines of action until the next Assembly.
