II Network Assembly

Burgos, November 4 and 5, 2021

Introduction

The Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda —established within the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP)— met in Burgos on November 4 and 5, 2021, to hold its II General Assembly. Taking advantage of this meeting, a conference was held to analyze the role of Local Governments in the implementation of the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda.

Six years have passed since the United Nations approved the most ambitious international agenda aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet, and improving the lives and prospects of people worldwide. In 2021, we are beginning the Decade of Action. The systemic change promoted by the implementation of the 2030 Agenda cannot be achieved individually or unilaterally; it requires a multi-stakeholder and multi-level effort, where City Councils, Provincial Councils, and Island Councils must occupy an important space, in coordination with other public administrations, the private sector, the academic field, culture, and citizens.

During the two-day conference “The 2030 AGENDA in the action of Local Governments,” the current situation was analyzed along with the future steps we must build, identifying the strengths and challenges of our networking. In short, important keys were offered for the empowerment of the local sphere in the extension of the 2030 Agenda, homogeneously across the territory, so that no one, and no territory, is left behind.

On November 5, the II Annual Assembly of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda took place. This was a private meeting space for Network members where the work plan and lines of action for the coming months were approved.

Below, you can find information on the results of the two days of work.
