As President of the Barcelona Provincial Council, I am pleased to be able to host in our territory the upcoming 3rd Assembly of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda and the Local Leadership Conference to drive the 2030 Agenda, on 14, 15 and 16 November 2022.

Since the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on 25 September 2015, the Barcelona Provincial Council has committed to making the Agenda its own and developing the tools and the financial, technical and training support needed so that the 311 municipalities in the province of Barcelona could join this challenge.

From the start of the current term, we took on a dual challenge: strengthening the commitment to municipalism that has always characterised the Barcelona Provincial Council, and achieving this milestone through sustainable territorial development in line with the 2030 Agenda.

Today, the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs guide corporate action through the 2020-2023 Term Action Plan, the budget and local cooperation lines, with the aim of moving towards a network of stronger, more cohesive local governments that leaves no one and no municipality behind.

The path begun in 2015 is also reflected in the approval of the Barcelona Provincial Council’s 2021-2030 Strategic Plan for implementing the 2030 Agenda, and in various tools and resources aimed at local entities for localising the 2030 Agenda.

With this commitment and the desire to move forward in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, we look forward to welcoming you next November. It will be an honour to receive you and greet you at this important meeting.
