Burgos launches a guide to facilitate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in small municipalities

To promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda among all municipalities in the province, regardless of their size and population. This is the goal pursued by the Provincial Council of Burgos, and it has been made a reality through ‘The 2030 Agenda within everyone’s reach: A practical guide for the localization and implementation of the 2030 Agenda in small municipalities in the province of Burgos’. The initiative, which has had the collaboration of the Regional Government of Castile and León and the FEMP, aims to offer a useful, simple, and duly adapted roadmap to the needs of these city councils to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. And judging by the success of the presentation day, they have achieved it.

The guide was presented on March 30 at the Royal Monastery of San Agustín in Burgos.

The key support of the FEMP Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda

The generation of alliances, networking, and cooperation between Local Governments are among the most valuable tools that we can place at the service of citizens, the planet, and prosperity,” explains José Hila, president of the FEMP Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda, in the introductory letter included in the Burgos guide. In fact, that is the main idea of this document, which is expected to facilitate the work of political and technical leaders of local administrations in the process of implementing the 2030 Agenda, which the Provincial Council of Burgos has adapted to the territorial and demographic characteristics of its municipalities.

The guide includes a brief introduction to the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs in rural areas, also including the opportunities it represents for the province of Burgos, with its great territorial and sustainability value. Likewise, guidelines have been incorporated to carry out local diagnosis, a localization plan, and the implementation and monitoring of the agenda. And to illustrate this, several practical examples of initiatives already launched in the province regarding the SDGs are provided. Finally, a series of resources and tools that may be useful during the 2030 Agenda implementation process are made available to small municipalities. Among them are the Spanish Urban Agenda, the Ministry of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda, the FEMP Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda, and the 2030 Agenda in Castile and León.
