From the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda, we collaborated in organising the ALMA 2030 Meeting. Multi-stakeholder Alliances for Development and Sustainable Tourism, held in Periana (Málaga) on 26 and 27 November. The event, part of the Periana 2030 strategy promoted by the local council, brought together local governments, the business community, social organisations, academia and public institutions, creating a shared working space that reaffirms the importance of building alliances to advance sustainable development at the local level.

ALMA 2030, supported by the Directorate-General for the 2030 Agenda of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda and the Provincial Council of Málaga, focused on sustainable tourism as a driver of development and on protecting the municipality’s unique heritage: the millenary olive tree, which has become a symbol of a tourism model that respects the rural environment. The meeting was also held to coincide with the commemoration of World Olive Day.

Over these two days, the municipality hosted working sessions, exchanges of experiences and technical visits related to olive oil tourism, including tours of the Mondrón Olive Growers’ Cooperative, the millenary olive trees and the new Periana Millenary Olive Tree Interpretation Centre.

A space to share progress and strengthen cooperation

As part of this meeting, the Multi-stakeholder Alliances Working Group of the Network of Local Entities met, and various knowledge-sharing panels were held, with contributions from town councils, international institutions, and business and academic organisations. The value of multi-stakeholder and multi-level alliances was highlighted, showing how cooperation between administrations and local actors drives solid, comprehensive roadmaps to address the challenges of the 2030 Agenda.

On 26, the Periana 2030 Plan and its sustainable tourism strategy were presented, along with the presentation of the Periana 2030 Awards to key local stakeholders. The 27th focused on thematic panels on multi-stakeholder alliances and sustainable tourism, with the participation of local governments, representatives from Axarquía, olive oil tourism experts and international institutions.

Commitment to sustainable development from the territories

The Network’s participation in this meeting reinforces its commitment to promoting local policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, fostering cooperation among different actors and supporting initiatives that, like Periana 2030, integrate sustainability, territorial identity and citizen participation.
