Burgos hosted a meeting that brought together 230 Local Governments to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in municipalities

Burgos, November 5, 2021.- The Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda, of the FEMP, achieved success in attendance and participation in the event within whose framework its second General Assembly was held. The event, held in Burgos on November 4 and 5, organized by the Burgos City Council and the Provincial Council, was attended by 230 representatives of Local Governments, who participated in this annual meeting whose objective is to establish the foundations for local action so that City Councils, Provincial Councils, Island Councils and Insular Councils can implement the Sustainable Development Goals in their action plans.

The event is part of the work that the FEMP has been developing in its firm commitment to lead and promote coordinated action that effectively addresses the challenges of the future from the local level. In short, joint action that allows the establishment of a mechanism for exchanging information, best practices and advice to successfully implement the 2030 Agenda through the Network, which already has 363 Local Entities as members.

The 2nd Assembly featured interventions by José Hila, President of the Network and Mayor of Palma; Nuria Simón, First Vice President of the Network and Mayor of Villarramiel (Palencia); Leticia Morales, Secretary of the Network; Ramiro Ibáñez, Provincial Deputy; and Daniel de la Rosa, Mayor of Burgos and host of the event. The members of the Network unanimously approved the minutes of the 1st General Assembly, held in October of last year; the 2030 Agenda implementation activities carried out between 2020 and 2021, the Action Plan and Budget for 2022, and the admission of new collaborating partners of the Network: the Tierras Sorianas del Cid Association, the Canal Sénior Association, the Spanish Confederation of Business Areas (CEDAES), Sanoma Educación (Santillana Group) and Quiero Salvar el Mundo Haciendo Marketing S. L. The assembly approval of these points will be submitted to the FEMP Governing Board for binding ratification.

Regarding which city will host the third edition of the Assembly, José Hila has invited those cities that are benchmarks in the implementation of the SDGs to submit their proposals. The one that is finally selected will be announced at the next meeting of the Network’s Governing Council, in February 2022.
