Today, the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Girona Provincial Council and the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, held the event “Indicators for Local Monitoring of the 2030 Agenda” in Santa Coloma de Farners. This key event brought together representatives from Town Councils and Provincial Councils to reflect on the use of indicators as essential tools for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local level.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Santa Coloma de Farners, Carme Salamaña Daranas, who highlighted the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences to move towards sustainable development. The President of the Girona Provincial Council, Miquel Noguer Planas, in turn, stressed the importance of indicators for good local governance, recalling the fundamental role of municipalities in achieving the SDGs.
“At the Girona Provincial Council, we integrate the SDGs into our budget lines because we know that without clear indicators we will not be able to move towards a better future. This event is a reminder of the importance of working together for fairer and more sustainable development,” said Miquel Noguer.

The event began with a presentation by Ana Estebaranz Berzal, Deputy Director for the 2030 Agenda at the FEMP, who shared the foundations and progress in the indicator process developed by the Network. This presentation laid the groundwork for debate and the exchange of experiences among participants.
One of the highlights was the presentation of a summary of the Guide to Indicators for Monitoring the 2030 Agenda by Idencity. This practical resource is designed to help local entities measure and monitor their impact on the SDGs, consolidating their role as key players in sustainable development, and is one of the tools created by the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda.

In the panel on experiences with Voluntary Local Reviews, good practices were shared by David Benítez Isnardo from the Benetússer Town Council, who highlighted the need for cross-cutting processes to integrate the SDGs into local policies. We also shared the experience of Ana Estrella Michel from the Segovia Town Council, who emphasised how citizen participation can be a driving force in building a sustainable future.

The event continued with a presentation by Lino Ramos from the Alcobendas Town Council, who explained how his municipality is aligning its local processes with the 2030 Agenda, and by Marta Fenollosa from the Rafelbunyol Town Council, who shared the lessons learned from her municipality’s recent Voluntary Local Review and its impact on the municipality’s future strategic plans.

Both speakers agreed on the importance of collaboration between municipal technical staff and different entities to overcome challenges and accelerate SDG implementation.
Closing the morning session, Winecta presented the indicator platform currently under development, a tool that will strengthen joint action and SDG monitoring by the Network’s Local Entities.

To conclude the event, attendees took part in collaborative working groups. These dynamics made it possible to put the use of indicators into practice in specific cases, exploring solutions and strategies to facilitate their integration into municipalities’ day-to-day work. The groups created a space for practical learning, strengthening the knowledge gained throughout the event.

The event concluded with the participation of Nil Papiol, Deputy for Sustainable Development and Cultural Heritage of the Girona Provincial Council, reaffirming the commitment of all attendees to the 2030 Agenda, highlighting the importance of indicators as a compass for sustainable development and the need to work together to achieve global goals through local action.
