The Governing Council of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has approved the 2026 action plan and has taken stock of the work carried out during the last quarter of 2025. The Network currently has 777 full members; 29 of them are provincial councils, island councils and insular councils, and it represents 66.97% of the Spanish population.

During the meeting, the President of the Network, Toni Pérez, Mayor of Benidorm and President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, highlighted the scale and consolidation of this municipal working space and noted that “we are the largest network within the FEMP”, with growing participation that also includes public and private observer members.

The 2026 roadmap strengthens a work programme designed to support local governments in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, the Vice-President of the Network, Ángel Viveros, Mayor of Coslada, focused on the momentum planned for next year and on the value of the actions carried out in the last quarter of 2025, noting that the 2026 plan “includes many opportunities in training, in advisory support, in sharing experiences through different events…”.

The session also addressed organisational and governance matters, such as the incorporation of new local entities and observer members, the updating of the working groups and the upcoming call for grants linked to the 2030 Agenda.

Huesca will host the Network’s 6th Assembly

Among the agreements adopted, the Governing Council unanimously agreed that Huesca will be the venue for the Network’s 6th annual Assembly, scheduled for October. The meeting will bring together political leaders and technical teams from local entities across the country, along with observer members and collaborating members, to share experiences, move forward on common lines of work and strengthen the process of implementing the 2030 Agenda.

The Mayor of Huesca and Second Vice-President of the Network, Lorena Orduna, highlighted the importance of municipal work as key to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and responding to the challenges currently being faced by local entities. The Network also thanks the entities that have submitted a bid to host the Assembly for their involvement and commitment to this shared working space.
