Amparo Torres, member of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda, took part in the 5th Congress of the Spanish Confederation of Business Areas.

Amparo Torres, member of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda and Second Vice-President of the Provincial Council of Albacete, delivered this Thursday the first of the presentations at the 5th National Congress of Business Areas, held by the Spanish Confederation of Business Areas (CEDAES) on 6 and 7 October in Agüimes, Gran Canaria.

As a representative of the Governing Council of the Network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Torres addressed the essential process of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda in the country’s more than 6,000 business areas, highlighting “the great challenge of making progress in meeting the SDGs in this ‘decade of action’”.

Torres also stressed that the industrial sector and its driving capacity “are vital to making the 2030 Agenda a reality”, underscoring the potential of the Network as the FEMP’s interlocutor instrument to join forces towards that goal, through its direct work to energise Local Entities across the country, fully aware of the essential role of businesses and industrial areas in Spain’s municipalities and provinces. Areas which, in Torres’ words, “are, on many occasions, just another neighbourhood of the towns” and which, as such, must be taken into account and managed.

In this regard, Torres explained how the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan aims not only to restore the Spanish economy from the effects of the pandemic, but also to relaunch it with ambitious modernisation objectives to place it in an optimal position to face the challenges of the future, in line with the 2030 Agenda.

“A more developed industrial sector boosts economic activity and can be an important social and territorial backbone,” she stated in her speech, pointing to the need to move towards the goal of overcoming the inefficiencies of an excessively concentrated and dependent economic system, and underlining how important it will be to “increasingly involve industrial activity” in the essential collaboration between Public Administration and the private sector to achieve the SDGs.
